If you took career and technology courses in high school that could be part of a Tech Prep Program, why not fill out a “petition for credit” form and see if those classes count for college credit? The form can be picked up in the academic advising office.
Tech Prep Six-Year Plans have classes that are included in agreements that Alvin Community College has with surrounding districts. In these local agreements, ACC will accept classes from high schools as substitutes for some college courses.
Tech Prep is similar to dual credit except Tech Prep programs include technical electives and have no cost or exit exams.
To use the credit that you get through a Tech Prep agreement, you need to declare the Associate of Applied Science degree that has the corresponding class. In some cases, you could get credit for a program elective.
For example, if you take a drafting class in high school that is on a Tech Prep Plan, you can only use that in the Drafting A.A.S. at Alvin Community College. You could not take that class with you to Culinary Arts or Criminal Justice because there is no equivalent for that class in those degrees.
If you have any questions, ask your advisor when you meet to select your courses, or you can contact me.
